WOODLANDER IGOR is one of the most successful and well known competition stallions at stud in the UK today, and Trevoulter Barton Stud is delighted to be able to make him available to breeders throughout the UK for the first time. He combines the best of modern KWPN type with a superb conformation, great mind and very correct paces with a proven record in sport, a top class pedigree and an impressive record as a sire from only a fairly limited career at stud due to his competition duties,
Performance
WOODLANDER IGOR had an impressive start to his competition career as a young horse, competing with success under Serena Pincus (of the Sheepcote Stud), Emily Freezer and Cathryn Creemer (the current test rider for the British Hannoverian Horse Society mare test). Such was his excellent temperament that it was then decided to concentrate on high-level Young Rider classes and with Amanda Leaker (who rides many young horses for the Woodlander Stud, Igor’s previous owners to whom we give grateful thanks for letting us buy him) he competed regularly at Advanced and Prix St George Level, retiring in 2008 with an impressive 280 dressage points.

With the showjumping influence in his pedigree it is not surprising that he also showed excellent potential for this as a young horse, but being owned by a dressage breeder and always based at dressage yards he did not have many opportunities to compete in this discipline. However, he has been able to pass on his natural jumping talent to his progeny, a number of whom have competed successfully in both showjumping and eventing.

ZELHEM was a very popular KWPN graded stallion who is related to many top performers through his sire, the performance test winner and prepotent sire of showjumpers LE MEXICO, whose osffsring include the top international performers Comex, Bollvorm’s Bad Boy, Mexican and Starlet. Le Mexico’s many stallion sons have spread the reputation of the KWPN as a source of sporting talent worldwide, including Zelhem’s ¾ brothers Silvano at Iron Springs Farm in the USA and Expert in Italy, and his full brother Dutchman in Australia. And he was also the sire of It’s the Business dam Alanda. Probably Le Mexico’s best known son is Ulft (sire of 12 graded sons including the international dressage stallions Ferro (top ranking sire for several years in the Breeding News for Sport Horses list of international dressage stallions in competition and himself the sire of 10 graded stallions including Metall and Negro) and Argentil Gullit who competed with Carl Hester at top international team level.
CHINA is by the impressive dual-purpose grey stallion SEBASTIAAN (again exported to Iron Springs).whose breeding indices of 141 for dressage and 125 for showjumping show how successfully he passed these qualities on to his offspring. China’s pedigree also provides an ideal mix of Holsteiner jumping ability through Orlandi (registered as Texas with the Holsteiner Verband) and the thoroughbred quality so needed in the modern competition horse, through Vesins XX, Tumbled XX and Zagreb XX.
Progeny
Woodlander Igor’s progeny, although fairly limited in number to date due to his competition commitments include the dressage horses Sezincote Iscander, Shipping Isadora, Woodlander Isabella and Woodlander Italia, the eventers Chemet and Woodlander Icon and the showjumper Maerdy Guinevere.
Well-known names also include:
Woodlander Illya, a successful dressage horse and eventer who also took part in the first-ever international parajumping competition helping his rider Rachael Maddocks to the title of Leading Rider in the championships
Woodlander Ilena 2nd placed horse overall in the Cuddy championships of 2001 for Cathy Wood, who then went on to great success as a broodmare with her progeny Elusive (1st large Riding Horse, Royal Windsor 2008, Illusion II (now eventing) and Aquila Stud Nigia (a big winner in hunter in-hand classes)
Woodlander Inferno who combined high placings in all-age Talent spotter finals as a 7 year old with a successful career in paradressage and
Woodlander I Spy another paradressage specialist
This list of progeny proves without doubt that Woodlander Igor not only passes on his superb athleticism and all round ability but also his outstanding temperament and rideability for all grades of rider in all three Olympic disciplines as well as quality of looks and presence that assures success at top level in the showing ring.
