Wenkenstern❤️ 1994-2017
It is with great sadness that Trevoulter Barton Stud has to announce the recent passing -- at the age 23 years -- of its senior stallion, the international dressage horse Wenkenstern.
Probably the most successful son of Weltmeyer to ever stand at stud in the UK , Wenkenstern (originally registered as Wenckstern in the Hannoverian Studbook) was dual graded Hannoverian Verband and WBSUK. Known to his friends as Wenky, a proven performer at every level of dressage, he not only won his performance test in Germany but also went on to compete at top international level, including taking part in the World Equestrian Games at Aachen in 2007.
An excellent temperament meant that he could combine this with a very successful career at stud, which resulted in a host of extremely talented offspring not only in Germany and the UK but also in The Netherlands and as far away as Australia. These progeny include a number of Grand Prix dressage horses, high-priced PSI auction horses and several highly scored representatives at the BEF Futurity so his influence in the top level of sports horse breeding world-wide means that he will be remembered with fondness by all of those who knew him professionally.
Wenky loved to hack out around the farm in his retirement often checking the farm animals, particularly showing off his fantastic piaffing skills across the fields to the big chestnuts being Trevoulter’s South Devon cattle!
Wenky will always be remembered with great fondness by all who knew him especially in his later years by all at Trevoulter Barton Stud. He was a true gentleman and massive character who will be greatly missed.
